In the face of ongoing gentrification and displacement occuring in Sydney and across the globe it is more important than ever that we engage in the fight to defend public housing. The Liberal National State Government continues to sell off public housing, often displacing long term residents and pushing them away from both the place they consider home and services they rely on.
In response we need to learn how to articulate a better and fairer vision of the city, one which does not only belong to the rich and powerful. We need to learn how to defend public housing more effectively against gentrification and displacement and engage in a critical discussion of these practices.
To discuss this we will be joined by Rita Mallia, the President of the Construction Division of the CFMEU, Alan Morris, Professor at the Institute for Public Policy and Governance, and Barney Gardner from the Rocks Public Housing Tenants Group who will discuss the issues and more.
The event will be hosted at Trades Hall on the 5th of February starting at 6:30pm
